Social Security Number Protection Policy

Purpose

Securian Financial Group, Inc. (SFG) is committed to protecting the privacy of all Social Security numbers (SSN) in the possession of our organization, including but not limited to our customers, financial professionals, associates and business partners.

Collection and Use

SFG will not request/collect an individual’s SSN unless the SSN is needed to comply with federal or state law, or where the SSN is required to administer or enforce a transaction.

Examples of appropriate use of SSNs include, but are not limited to:

  • Tax reporting
  • Underwriting insurance applications
  • Background checks
  • Compliance with Anti-Money Laundering regulations

Access to SSN is limited to associates who need access to the SSN, or to a record containing the SSN, in order to fulfill their job responsibility or function.

Sharing

An individual’s SSN will be released to parties outside of our organization only if it is allowed or required by law or the individual provides consent. SFG will not sell an individual’s SSN.

Protection

The Company maintains physical, electronic and procedural safeguards designed to protect SSNs. Records (paper, electronic or other media) containing SSNs are stored in and disposed of in a secure manner.
