Gary leads a team of 60 legal and compliance professionals located in the United States and Canada, which delivers support to Securian Financial’s business units, affiliates and corporate departments.

In this role, he draws on 35 years of experience with the company, including 25 years of legal practice focusing on insurance law, securities, corporate governance and strategic business development initiatives.

Experience

Gary joined our management development program in 1984 and worked in our Human Resources department from 1985 until 1994. Since 1994, he has held various positions in our Law department, including his current role, which began in 2012.

Community

Gary represents Securian Financial on the Intelligence Committee of the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF).

He has served on the boards of directors for the Association of Life Insurance Counsel (ALIC), Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest, and the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation (Wilder). Gary also served as chair of ALIC’s audit committee and Wilder’s finance committee.
