Securian’s supplemental health insurance customers may receive benefits without needing to gather extensive documentation themselves—or having to remember to file claims at all.
ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Securian Financial and Reclaim Health—an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered healthcare financial advocacy platform that helps people maximize their insurance benefits—are now processing and paying auto-substantiated supplemental health insurance claims for select Securian customers who choose to integrate their supplemental health benefits with claims made to their major medical insurance.
Leveraging Reclaim’s AI algorithms to scan claims made to customers’ major medical insurance, Securian Financial has identified hundreds of qualifying supplemental health benefit claims that employees had not yet submitted across six employer clients who offer Securian’s voluntary accident, critical illness and/or hospital indemnity insurance products as part of their workplace benefit packages. In just a few months, Securian has already paid over 100 claims—approximately 40 of which required zero effort from the employees.
One Securian employer client saw 39% of its employees opt in to the auto-substantiated claims program, with several quickly receiving paid supplemental health claims with little action required on their part. By the end of 2025, Securian estimates that 20% of its supplemental health benefits book of business will be leveraging Reclaim’s auto-substantiated claims tool—with many leading benefit administrators already integrating this process into their enrollment experience for shared clients.
“We are excited about the results we’ve seen so far in our work with Reclaim to transform the voluntary supplemental health benefits claims experience for our customers,” said Adam Taylor, Securian Financial second vice president for Employee Benefits Solutions. “For the first time, customers may receive benefits without needing to gather extensive documentation on their own—or having to remember to file a claim at all.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Securian Financial to bring our AI-driven solutions to their customers,” said Nataly Youssef, Reclaim Health’s CEO and founder. “This collaboration advances our mission to ensure customers receive their maximum entitled financial payouts promptly and with little to no effort on their part.”
Supplemental health insurance policies provide a lump sum payout to help with expenses after a qualifying medical event. However, it can be hard to focus on paperwork after an accident, hospital stay or critical illness diagnosis. As a result, individuals may be missing out on financial support when they need it most.
“Auto-substantiated claims can fix the problem of customers failing to seek claims for benefits in which they are entitled, with customers receiving proactive communication whenever they may be eligible for a claim,” said Taylor. “It’s important to our customers that the claims experience is efficient, and our collaboration with Reclaim really checks that box.”
Securian Financial offers supplemental health benefits, including accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity insurance, to employers nationwide issued by its subsidiaries, Minnesota Life Insurance Company and Securian Life Insurance Company. The company is also the nation’s third-largest direct writer of group life insurance.1
