Supporting supplier businesses

Leading by example

As a purchaser of goods and services from other organizations, we strive to be inclusive, account for community and environmental impacts and meet our business needs. By doing so, we support supplier businesses while helping them integrate responsible practices into their own operations and contribute to a more secure tomorrow.

Inviting diverse businesses

We actively seek diverse businesses through our supplier diversity program because as our communities diversify, our supplier base should, too. When we support businesses owned by underrepresented populations, we can help them pursue their own secure tomorrows in a tangible way.

Supplier diversity policy statement

Securian Financial is committed to ensuring that our supplier procurement process is open to all suppliers on an equal basis. We seek high quality diverse businesses, including minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses, veteran-owned businesses, LGBTQ+-owned businesses, and disabled-owned businesses, to join our roster of vendors.

Fostering an inclusive supplier base through our team’s diversity efforts is critical to supporting Securian Financial's mission, supporting the communities we live and work in, and ensuring we’re open to the variety of perspectives that will enable us to innovate and be competitive in the changing marketplace. We are committed to growing this area purposefully with the best interests of Securian and our suppliers in mind.

Adding rigor to an existing program

Our supplier diversity program was revamped in 2016, and we continually adapt to ensure it aligns with our values and corporate responsibilities.

  • Visible support from our CEO and other senior executives emphasizes the importance of this enterprise-wide program.
  • Diversity- and sustainability-focused committees within our Procurement team help us be more mindful of how we select diverse suppliers, measure our success and expect vendor partners to model our commitment to community and responsible buying in their own endeavors.
  • Clear goals for supplier diversity spend and highlighting community impact help us measure our progress.
  • We evaluate our supplier diversity policy statement regularly.
