Client-first investment practices

Our investment philosophy puts customers first.

  • Revenue sharing is credited back to participant accounts daily, eliminating inequity in assessing plan costs to participants.

  • Foreign tax credits are credited back to the separate accounts that generated them, resulting in lower separate account expenses and optimized performance.

  • Use of the most efficient share class – after revenue sharing and/or foreign tax credits have been credited back – helps minimize expenses and maximize returns.1

Innovative investment choices

Securian Financial offers thoughtful, innovative investment platforms, including the unique practices utilized in both our open architecture platform and Securian Signature Series® programs. Our pricing is not affected by proprietary funds, mapping strategies or fund selections.

Open architecture

We offer a robust open architecture program with more than 6,000 unique investment options available, but without the distraction of multiple share classes of the same strategy that can clutter other open architecture platforms.

Our approach provides meaningful choice, fee levelization and transparency. The platform includes:

  • Actively and passively managed mutual funds
  • Collective investment trusts, including nonproprietary target-date and target-risk funds as well as stable value funds
  • Variable insurance trusts with a recent emergence of managed risk and managed volatility strategies
  • Institutional separate accounts

Securian Signature Series®

The Signature Series is a diversified investment array created by the Securian Due Diligence Committee through a rigorous selection and monitoring process to ensure that we continuously offer quality investments.

Plan sponsors have the option to appoint Securian as a platform level ERISA 3(38) fiduciary for the Signature Series.

Administrative outsourcing

We make plan administration easy for your clients, allowing them to focus on other work and leave the day-to-day details to us. The knowledge and expertise of our team allows employers to focus on their business because we provide a level of administrative support that’s typically done in house by the employer.

In addition to the standard services offered by most retirement plan providers, we offer more services at no additional cost, including:

  • Streamlined plan management
  • Fiduciary support
  • Loan processing using ACH payments
  • Enhanced distribution services for QDROS and hardships
  • Terminated participant tracking
  • Required notices management

An optional ERISA 3(16) fiduciary program is also available for employers that wish to transfer even more administrative tasks to Securian while mitigating their fiduciary risk.
