AM Best affirms Securian Financial's A+ (Superior) rating and stable outlook

Balance sheet strength, operating performance and risk management cited

On December 18, 2020, AM Best affirmed Securian Financial’s insurance financial strength rating at A+ (Superior) and maintained our stable outlook.

The rating and outlook apply to Securian Financial subsidiaries Minnesota Life Insurance Company and Securian Life Insurance Company.

The rating agency cited our “balance sheet strength,” “strong operating performance,” “favorable business profile” and “appropriate enterprise risk management” as primary reasons for the affirmation. AM Best also noted the quality of our capital and invested assets, and our earnings diversification.

AM Best also affirmed the financial strength ratings and stable outlook for Securian Financial subsidiaries Securian Casualty Company and Canadian Premier Life Insurance Company.

Our strong industry ratings, especially at the end of a challenging year for the industry, reflect how our historical approach to smart growth and thoughtful enterprise risk management keeps Securian Financial well-positioned to manage through uncertainty.
