Fitch Ratings affirms Securian Financial's AA rating and stable outlook

Agency cites our extremely strong capitalization, diversified earnings profile, strong investment and asset risk profile

On February 19, 2021, Fitch Ratings affirmed the insurance financial strength rating for Securian Financial at AA (Very Strong) and maintained our “Stable” outlook.

The AA (Very Strong) rating is Fitch’s third highest of 19 ratings. The rating and outlook apply to Securian Financial affiliates Minnesota Life Insurance Company and Securian Life Insurance Company.  

According to Fitch, our ratings continue to reflect our “extremely strong capitalization,” “strong and diversified earnings profile,” and our “investment asset and risk profile remains very strong.”

Fitch also cited our “strong competitive position in the group life and individual life insurance markets… supported by its service-driven model and customized systems, which support high retention levels.”

Fitch’s affirmation of our ratings and outlook reflects how Securian Financial’s historical approach to smart growth and strong enterprise risk management keeps our company well-positioned to manage through uncertainty.
