Breanne

Brigham Young University; Provo, UT
Major: Statistics
Minor: Economics

Breanne worked as a hockey instructor and coach for Peaks Ice Arena in Provo, UT, and as a caterer for Brigham Young University. She taught statistics as a teaching assistant and tutored students with statistics coursework as a private tutor for two semesters. Last summer, Breanne successfully completed an actuarial internship with Securian’s Internship Program. This year she returns in a full-time position as an actuarial analyst with our Individual Life division.

"What first attracted me to Securian is its location in downtown St. Paul. After my internship, I knew I liked the atmosphere of the Company and everyone I worked with was great. There was no doubt that I wanted to return full-time."

Information Services

Aaron

Augsburg College; Minneapolis, MN
Major: Computer Science

Aaron graduated from Augsburg Magna Cum Laude having been named to the Dean’s List four semesters. He participated in the student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery on campus and was a member of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society. In 2003, Aaron was a Midwest Instruction and Computing Symposium programming contest participant and winner of the Computer Science department programming contest.

Prior to joining Securian, Aaron spent two summers working for Target Corporation. As a web application developer intern in 2003, he designed and implemented Java web enterprise application and improved an existing Java web enterprise demo application. A year later, Aaron was responsible for the support, maintenance and troubleshooting of multiple web applications. Aaron brings his knowledge of web development to Securian’s Information Services department as a senior programmer analyst.

Scott

St. John’s University; Collegeville, MN
Major: Computer Science
Minor: Mathematics

Scott was named to the St. John’s Dean’s List two consecutive years and served as a teacher’s assistant with the Computer Science department for three years. During the summers of 2004 and 2005, Scott had the opportunity to conduct summer research, first with the Mathematics department and then with the Computer Science department in association with Scandia Laboratories.

In June 2006, Scott started a career with Securian’s Information Services department as a programmer analyst with Training and Support Services.

David

St. John’s University; Collegeville, MN
Major: Computer Science
Minor: Philosophy

David’s interests and accomplishments on and off campus included: Eagle Scout, Tae Kwon Do red belt, former Shared Ministry retreat leader, officer and instructor for the College of St. Ben/St. John’s University Ballroom Dance Club, and treasurer for the ATA Tae Kwon Do.

In 2005, David participated in Securian’s Summer Internship Program with our Information Services department. As a programmer intern, he had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that utilized his programming, coding and technical skills. His internship helped him earn full-time employment as a programmer analyst with Securian’s Information Services department.

Hamid

North Dakota State University; Fargo, ND
Major: Management Information Systems
Minor: Computer Science

While attending NDSU, Hamid held membership with several school organizations that included the Libra Honor Society, International Student Association and International Soccer Club.

Prior to graduation, Hamid worked for Bobcat IR’s Information Technology department diagnosing hardware and software problems and repairing PCs and other equipment for more than 1,000 employees. Up to that point, Hamid had interned with NDSU maintaining the College of Business Administration’s web site and providing server administration to the Accounting and Information Systems department. Hamid joins Securian’s Information Services department as a programmer analyst.

Josh

The College of St. Scholastica; Duluth, MN
Majors: Computer Science, Mathematics

Josh was awarded the Marshall H. and Nellie Alworth Memorial Fund scholarship and Benedictine Scholarship. He participated in the Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarship Program, and received Dean’s List honors each semester. Josh’s involvement on campus included the Campus Activities Board and varsity tennis player.

In 2004, Josh interned with Saint Mary’s Duluth Clinic as a Support Technician. As part of the Information Technology Services department, he aided a project to transition to updated computer software and hardware. As a programming intern with Minnesota Power, Josh helped research and program a large-scale Java web application to centralize company information. This past June, Josh accepted a programmer analyst position with Securian’s Information Services department.

Kyle

St. John’s University; Collegeville, MN
Major: Computer Science

Kyle developed a variety of skills during work study assignments with St. John’s Alcuin Library Media Services, Custodial Services and grounds crew. He put his computer and technical skills to work as a teaching assistant with the Computer Science department. In 2005, Kyle participated in Securian’s Summer Internship Program with our Information Services department. The knowledge he gained helped him earn a full-time position as a programmer analyst with the Company.

Divya

College of St. Catherine; St. Paul, MN
Majors: Computer Science, Mathematics
Minor: Management Information Systems

Divya was as dedicated on campus as she was in the classroom. She volunteered for the Women and Technology Workshop and St. Catharine International Student Organization and was a member of AWM, Association of Women in Mathematics. She also was involved with the St. Catherine Activities Team and a member of the school’s Math Team.

Divya was employed as a teaching assistant her last semester at school. Assisting with the organization and overall structure of the classes, she helped create and implement lesson plans, exams, lab and homework assignments. Last summer, she worked for American Express Financial Advisors as a program coordinator. Her many responsibilities included creating an overall program plan, a risk analysis plan and a resource plan. She also instructed project managers on the basics of Microsoft Project. This past December, Divya accepted a full-time position with Securian’s Information Services department.

Sarah

College of St. Benedict; St. Joseph, MN
Major: Computer Science
Minor: Spanish

Sarah was a recipient of both the Presidential Scholarship and Recognition Scholarship and earned Dean’s List honors. She served as president of the Strategic Games Club and volunteered at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. Sarah also volunteered her time as a member of the Regina Hall Council and was co-commissioner of Mendota Heights Athletic Association’s K-2 basketball program.

As a teaching assistant with the Computer Science department for three years, Sarah assisted students with their programming and computer application labs. Working with programs including Visual Basic, Excel, Access, Unix command line and compilers helped Sarah better individualize student needs based on skill levels. Last summer Sarah successfully completed an internship with Securian’s Information Services department and has been hired full-time as a programmer analyst.

"After my internship, I knew Securian would be a great place to begin my career. I was excited to accept a full-time position where I’m more than just an associate – I’m part of a team and a family."

 

Tyler

Minnesota State University – Mankato, MN
Major: Management Information Systems

Tyler was named to the Dean’s List each semester for three years and was a Management Information Systems Club member serving as its web master. His responsibilities included improving and maintaining the MIS Club web site, developing Internet Book Exchange for students and creating dynamic applications.

For six years, Tyler spent summers working for Classic Marble Restoration in Blaine, MN, where he assigned projects to employees and worked on job sites that included hotels, businesses and residential sites, restoring marble flooring. Tyler returns to Securian’s Information Services department after successfully completing the Company’s Internship Program as a programmer intern last summer.

Jennifer

University of Minnesota – Duluth, MN
Major: Teaching Mathematics

Jennifer was named to the Dean’s List each semester during college and earned Summa Cum Laude honors. She served as a math tutor with UMD for a year. She received a Minnesota State Teaching License for Mathematics and earned College Reading and Learning Association Regular, Advanced and Master Tutoring certificates.

Upon graduation, Jennifer began her teaching career as a math teacher with Stillwater Area High School. For a year, she instructed students in grades 10 – 12 in algebra, geometry and integrated math. Jennifer then moved to New Prague where again served as a math teacher to high school students. In 2005, she became assistant director of Huntington Learning Center in Chanhassen, MN. Among her many responsibilities, she created individualized student programs and administered diagnostic evaluations to prospective students. Jennifer begins a new chapter in her career this year joining Securian’s Information Services department as a programmer analyst.

Amanda

College of St. Benedict; St. Joseph, MN
Major: Art
Minor: Computer Science

Amanda was employed with St. John’s University for the better part of four years while in school. From 2002 – 2006 she was a web assistant and office assistant with the Academic Advising Office. And from 2004 – 2006 She served as teacher’s assistant with the Computer Science department. Amanda, a four-year recipient of the Presidential Award, was an Art Club member and a Grassroots Street Children sponsor. In June, Amanda began her career with Securian, accepting a full-time position as a programmer analyst in our Production Management department.

Management Development

Erin

Luther College; Decorah, IA
Major: Psychology
Minor: Communications

Erin was named to the Dean’s List each semester and was a four-year recipient of the Presidential Scholarship. Actively involved on campus, she was president and fundraising chair of Tau Delta Gamma Sorority and a member of Phi Betta Kappa and the Psi Chi Psychology National Honor Society. Erin also volunteered and served as captain of a campus phone-a-thon.

Prior to joining Securian’s Management Development Program, Erin was employed by Luther College Career Center. As a career assistant she advised undergraduates on general job search strategies and delivered resume and cover letter preparation presentations. From 2001 – 2004, Erin spent her summers interning for American Family Insurance, first in money processing and then in claims and human resources.

"The Management Development Program rotations are what attracted me to Securian. I was impressed with the fact that I could gain experience in numerous business areas and find a good career fit."

 

Linnea

College of St. Benedict; St. Joseph, MN
Major: Management
Minor: Spanish

Linnea was a three-time recipient of both the Presidential Scholarship and Diversity Scholarship and two-time recipient of the Maas Scholarship. She spent a month in China studying the country’s economic development and industrial growth. And for over a year, Linnea served as editor of the Student Activities and Leadership Development newsletter.

In June 2005, Linnea co-founded Project Uplift in Rockford, IL. Serving as chairman of the board, she helped the nonprofit organization in its efforts to provide apartments and homes for rent to underprivileged families, immigrants and refugees. The organization provides financial assistance and information to clients so they can position themselves to become homeowners without future financial aid. A year later, Linnea accepted a position as an assistant analyst with Securian’s Management Development Program.

"I accepted a position with Securian because the Management Development Program really focuses on the individual as well as the Company. The program helps college grads understand how to become effective and efficient leaders."

 

Thomas

Iowa State University; Ames, IA
Majors: Management, Marketing

Thomas was an active member of FarmHouse Fraternity, serving as its vice president, pledge class president, homecoming chairman and new member educator. He also participated in FarmHouse Leadership Academy and a food drive sponsored by the fraternity. Other on-campus involvement included producer of Stars Over ISU and membership on the Greek Marketing Executive Council.

Thomas joins Securian’s Management Development Program with a strong track record of work experience. As a Ticketmaster marketing intern, he developed promotional offers and analyzed the ticket sales, online promotions and use of the Ticketmaster brand in promotional partners’ advertising. With ISU, Thomas facilitated peer-led study sessions as a finance supplemental instruction leader and helped enhance student performance. Spending a year as recruitment chair for FarmHouse, Thomas planned and executed recruitment events that resulted in a 100 percent membership increase as compared to the prior year, earning a first place award among 30 FarmHouse fraternities nationwide.

Theresa

University of St. Thomas; St. Paul, MN
Major: Business Economics

As a member of the Student Alumni Association for two years, Theresa planned activities and organized events for students and alumni as Mentoring Committee co-chair. Theresa earned membership with Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society in 2005, mentored with St. Phillip’s Teen Group for a year and was involved with 4H for 10 years serving as treasurer, vice president and president. She also earned Economic department honors after writing a thesis about the economic impact of Minnesota Wild hockey and its new stadium on the city of St. Paul.

After two summers working as an office assistant and assembler at Daktronics, Theresa earned an internship with the company’s Human Resources department. Her many responsibilities included screening applicants and offering positions to qualified individuals, researching and implementing an employee assistance program and modifying the company’s evaluation process. Last summer, Theresa successfully completed an internship with Securian’s Management Services department. Her success as an analyst intern earned her a full-time position in our rotational Management Development Program.
