Individual Financial Security As of December 31, 2007 We offer a full spectrum of insurance and investment products and services for career advisors to meet the financial services needs of high net worth clients. Total sales by Securian’s Individual Financial Security division increased 21 percent to $3.8 billion in 2007. Annual premium life insurance sales increased two percent, and sales by our broker-dealer, Securian Financial Services, Inc., increased 27 percent to a record $3.2 billion, marking its fifth consecutive record year. We strengthened our nationwide Securian Financial Network of financial advisors, increasing the number of full-time career advisors eight percent to 860, while retaining 95 percent of our top 500 advisors. The result came from both organic growth in existing firms and the addition of four new firms. Investing in the recruiting infrastructure of existing firms, we added 20 recruiters nationwide. We also expanded our efforts to recruit female advisors through the Women’s Interactive Sales Exchange. These initiatives helped turn around a previous decline in the number of full-time advisors, and set the stage for continued growth of our career advisor network. Reflecting our commitment to high performance standards and ethical sales practices, 422 of our fulltime career advisors qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table in 2007. We retained our position as the eighth-ranked domestic financial services company based on Million Dollar Round Table membership. We offer a robust individual life insurance portfolio with a range of choices – fixed and variable products, adjustable life, universal life, indexed life, and term insurance – for our career advisors as well as affiliated third party producers in our Independent Distribution Group (IDG). We’re also committed to making it easy for advisors to do business with us. Our LifeCenter web site supports IDG and we introduced Quick Quotes, which provides preliminary, nonbinding underwriting information to advisors before completing the full application process. Providing an excellent array of programs and services, our broker-dealer is critical to the success of our financial services platform. In 2007, the number of advisors selling fee-based financial plans increased 12 percent, fees collected increased 43 percent and the number of plans sold increased 24 percent. Meeting the trust services needs of our high net worth clients, Securian Trust Company, N.A. achieved a 20 percent increase in discretionary and nondiscretionary trustee assets and a 12 percent increase in revenue in 2007. Securian Trust also established a formal referral relationship with Waddell & Reed to offer trust services through its advisors. Customer service remains a hallmark of the Individual division. In 2007, surveys showed that 95 percent of individual life insurance policyholders were satisfied with our service and 95 percent would recommend us. |
